When
a gang of mercenaries attempt to kidnap a young boy - amid a flurry
of gunfire and frantic car chases - the owner of a child care facility
tries to protect the kid. Ikehiro and youngster Riki escape to
former military specialist Saeko who has isolated herself from the world
in her own survival bunker. At one time, the Ikehiro and Saeko had been
boyfriend/ girlfriend while serving together in Japan's National Guard,
but their relationship disintegrated when she quit to join the American
Army special forces in Panama. Today, after a decade of covert espionage,
Saeko has returned to Japan but she suffers from nightmarish flashbacks
and bouts of depression. The two now join forces to protect themselves
and the child Riki (who appears to hold an important clue to activities
of an international conspiracy movement) from a full scale attack.
Today,
Takashi Miike is one of the most successful filmmakers in the world,
certainly the most prolific. As of this date in 2018, he has helmed
an astonishing 100+ projects in less than 30 years (including such genre
classics as ICHI
THE KILLER, AUDITION,
GREAT
YOKAI WAR, ONE
MISSED CALL and his Death Wish homage SUN
SCARRED. His 1995 film SHINJUKU
TRIAD SOCIETY is often cited as his first production, yet this
is far from the truth. While Miike's early films are much more elusive
and difficult to find, they do exist. Here is the movie that Miike says
is his first. This information is slightly conflicted because another
movie, EYECATCH
JUNCTION(which he made a bit later for a different studio)was actually released first. Like another 'lost' films from
the period, which include HUMAN
MURDER WEAPON, this one is a celebration for Miike fans everywhere.
