A group of
fashion models - including Macy, a teenager who can [yes] see ghosts and
her best friend Bibi - accept a modeling job to shoot a commercial at
their boss' ancestral home on desolate East Dragon Island. Once there,
they discover more than they bargained for... namely a deadly vampire
obsessed with pretty Macy.
Despite the
rather cutesy title, this is a surprisingly effective Hong Kong thriller
that immediately whisks the viewer into the golden period of CAT III horror
hybrids, similar to the classics THE
IMP and ESCAPE
FROM CORAL COVE. The success lies in director Chin's keen determination
to deliver the goods. This is essentially his debut project after a rather
lengthy tenure with the Pang Brothers as their assistant director. He
was the #2 man for all their films from THE
EYE forward, through FOREST
OF DEATH and ABNORMAL
BEAUTY. And Mr Chin has emerged with a fresh and welcomed vision
for his own production.
The sexy lead
actress here is Jay Fong (under the name J. J.). Miss Fong is a Hong Kong
model who acts under a variety of pseudonyms including Fong Ching, Jane
Fong, Jay Fong, Zing Fong, Jane Fong Ching, et al. She is probably
best known for THE
FRUIT IS RIPE 3 and THE
PEACH RIPENS
(Fruit Is Ripe 4).
