Based
on a 1959 fantasy novel by Muro Saisei, this film tells the story of
Professor Ojisama, a lauded writer approaching the end of his career.
His best days are long past; Ojisama's social life has come to a virtual
standstill. But this Master has a secret. A very quirky secret. He is
not alone in his home. Ojisama lives with Akako, a beautiful young woman
who is - in fact - a goldfish turned human. Yes, inexplicably, a goldfish
transformed into a human girl. He is very protective of Akako and -
although she enjoys an occasional night-on-the-town - they live happily
together. Despite her sensuous wide-eyed innocence, the two are not
sexually involved. However, their idyllic life becomes tedious when
one of the Master's old lovers finds her way back to him, further complicated
because she's been dead for many years.
Gakuryű
Ishii (perhaps better known as Sogo Ishii) was born January 1958 in

Upon
the release of this film, actress Fumi Nikaido was heralded as a new
'overnight sensation.' But fans of genre movies will recognized her
from Sion Sono's WHY

here, Ren Osugi is a very familiar face in cult films, appearing in
450+ productions since 1979, from SUBWAY
SERIAL RAPE to AUDITION,

GODZILLA. Mr Osugi died from a heart attack, February 2018,
