Director
Sion Sono is a cult hero and poignant filmmaker, uncompromising in his
art. He has made an impressive number of top quality motion pictures
and TV productions, 60+ projects since DECISIVE
MATCH: GIRLS DORM VS BOYS DORM in 1987. Sion Sono is probably
best known for SUICIDE
CIRCLE (notorious for the multiple suicide deaths of high school
girls on the subway tracks) and recent projects like STRANGE
CIRCUS, VIRGIN
PSYCHICS, HAZARD,

and WHY
DON'T YOU PLAY IN HELL.
Prior
to 2000, Sion Sono concentrated mostly on short films as he tweaked
his technique, fine-tuning his style. This is an important package of
his 11 short films, ranging from ponderous to sexy to brilliant [including
a music video he helmed in 1990 for the Japanese rock group Great
Riches], each production responsible for calibrating Sion Sono's
cinematic evolution.
