As the
film opens, British
gentleman banker David Rank decides to drop out of straight society [including
far away from his haughty fiancée] and disappear to Indonesia,
specifically Bali. His new lifestyle includes total freedom (ie, brawling,
intense alcohol consummation and covorting with prostitutes) until the
local police - no longer amused by his behavior - give David an ultimatum:
Find a job or go back to England. He tries tourism, but fails at that.
Eventually, David secures a job with a local liquor distributor but puts
everything in jeopardy by bedding the wife of his boss. This all leads
to a gold smuggling racket, a shootout at sea and - eventually - David
falling love with Maryon, the 'Virgin of Bali.'
An enjoyable
slice of Exploitation Cinema [no, they don't make 'em like this anymore]
from director Guido Zurli, who occasionally used the pseudonym Albert
Moore (eg, BLACK
DEEP THROAT). Just prior to this film, actress Haydee Politoff
made the cult hit QUEENS
OF EVIL and a couple years later she starred with Paul Naschy
in COUNT
DRACULA'S GREAT LOVE.
Giorgio
Ardisson had a career of almost 70 movies, starting with Peplums in the
early '60s (including QUEEN
FOR CAESAR and HERCULES
IN THE HAUNTED WORLD), moving through Spaghetti Westerns (MASSACRE
IN THE GRAND CANYON, Giallos (MAN,
MORE POISONOUS THAN THE COBRA) and Thrillers (YOUR
SWEET BODY TO KILL). He also starred in two of the worst, flabergastingly
cockeyed films of all time, CROSS
WITH SEVEN JEWELS and DELITTI
(CRIMES). Mr Ardisson died from a heart attack at age 82, December
2014.
