original
Italian title MAL D'AFRICA [Africa Sick]
director Sergio
Martino (as Martin Dolman)
starring Richard Hatch · Eleonora Brigliadori · James
Mitchum · Daniel Greene

Easily,
this is rarest of the Sergio Martino movies, often considered a lost
film. It tells the story of Tony La Palma (Richard Hatch). He is now
living in Kenya, working to protect wild 'big-game' animals from hunters
and illegal poachers. However, Tony finds himself in mortal danger when
a love affair ignites a very dark past with links to mayhem and murder.
Richard
Hatch is best remembered for his portrayal of Apollo in the original
Battlestar Galactica (1978-79) and Tom Zarek in the Battlestar
Galactica reboot (2004-09). Between those memorable SciFi TV
shows, he went to Italy for a few feature films including Stelio Fiorenza's
excellent Giallo DARK
BAR and, of course, this solid actioner. Mr Hatch died from
Pancreatic Cancer in February 2017. He was 71.
Sergio
Martino is still active in the film business as of this writing (he
was born in 1938) and has enjoyed much success in a wide variety of
genres. Sergio is best known for his thrillers (i.e., ALL
THE COLORS OF THE DARK, SUSPICIOUS
DEATH OF A MINOR, TORSO),
his Spaghetti Westerns (A
MAN CALLED BLADE, ARIZONA
COLT RETURNS) and his horror films (MOZART
IS A MURDERER, GREAT
ALLIGATOR, et al).
