Two
Yakuza clans - the Ikemoto family and the Murase family - have gone
to war, further complicated by the actions of underboss Otomo who plans
to use the conflict to advance his own ambitions in the organization.
This film opens with Otomo in prison, alive after surviving the bloodbath
that concludes the first movie. His premature release from jail causes
tension between the two families, immediately threatening the volatile
peace which has existed between them. The fight for power once again
accelerates and sparks the involvement of a police detective who has
a secret agenda of his own.
This
is a direct sequel to Takeshi Kitano's OUTRAGE
from 2010. Once again, it is excessively violent and brutal, far removed
from his other recent projects (e.g., the gangster comedy RYUZO
AND HIS SEVEN HENCHMEN and ACHILLES
AND THE TORTOISE) For this franchise, he plays the Otomo, an
ambitious mobster willing to do anything to gain control of the Syndicate.
However, ultimately, the film is less interested in focusing on individuals
than in portraying the interworkings of the Yakuza world. In that sense
it is remarkably more similar to the epic Johnnie To Hong Kong movie
ELECTION
or Takshi Miike's RAINY
DOG.
The third entry in this trilogy is called OUTRAGE
