Finished with big city life, Maya and best friend Dini decide to
return to their roots. They return to the rural home of their childhood
but find a nest of horror waiting for them. The village has been infected
by a curse that is causing babies to be born without skin. Seemingly,
Maya is responsible for hideous condition [or at least the villagers think
so] and she is targeted for sacrifice.
Today,
Joko Anwar is one of the world's major directors, especially in the realm
of horror. His career was launched with the success of FORBIDDEN
DOOR in 2009. A collection of hits followed, including re-boots
of SATAN'S
SLAVES
[PENGABOI SETAN] and QUEEN
OF BLACK MAGIC [RATU
ILMU HITAM] with Kimo Stamboel. He began his career as assistant director
and scripter for Nia Di Nata, one of Indonesia's lone female filmmakers
in 2003. He learned his craft well, quickly becoming a major player in
that country's entertainment field. Now, with eight top-grossing films
under his belt (plus some impressive television work) he has managed to
become a world respected director. This particular film is a co-production
with CJ Entertainment of South Korea. It was the winner of six Piala
Citra Awards [the Indonesian Oscar] in 2019, including Best Picture
and Best Director.
