Mattei always enjoyed making movies in this kind of setting: shot mostly
underground, in the belly of a malfunctioning or dormant mechanism (ie,BLADE

et al). It is also one of numerous Mattei movies which take place in Venice

CAPRICE. Albeit considerably different from those two, this one
still benefits from obviously being a pet project.
Imagine
a marriage of Alien and Terminator. The result is this movie.
In the near future, Venice has become a polluted, dead city unfit for
human existence. Researchers are working to improve or correct the situation.
However, their job is interrupted when they are attacked and killed by
unknown forces. A military team is sent underground to investigate.
