director: Aleksandr Alov and Vladimir Naumov
starring: Alain Delon · Natacha Belokhvostikova · Curd Jurgens · Claude
Jade · Evelyne Kraft · Claude Jade
This
film is based on the Andrei Borodin documents which revealed that
Nazi Germany planned to assassinate Stalin, Roosevelt and Churchill during
the 1943 Teheran summit. A German agent named Max Richard was in charge
of the hit but failed miserably due to counter-espionage work of Allied
spy Andrei Borodin. As the story continues, Andrei meets a French woman
[Marie Louni] during his stay in Teheran which results in an intense but
deadly affair. Meanwhile, Nazi agents are hunting down all those who failed
in the assassination attempt.
Many
International critics agree this is the best Russian film of the '80s.
While most genre fans will appreciate the expertise and intense hardboiled
action, perhaps the main appeal here is the last screen appearance of
Evelyne Kraft, the cult actress who found success with MIGHTY
PEKING MAN, DEADLY
ANGELS and LADY
DRACULA.
