Craig
Hill shines in his Best Role, Paolo Bianchi's Tough Spaghetti Western
Original Italian Title: LO
VOGLIO MORTO [I Want His Death]
director: Paolo Bianchi (Paolo Bianchini)
starring: Craig Hill · Lea Massari · Jose Manuel Martin
· Andrea Bosic · Lucia Calderon · Cristina Businari
A tough
(although historically cockeyed) film from Paolo Bianchi (GATLIN
GUN), with a rugged Craig Hill performance to match the director's
quest for grittiness. Evil arms-trafficking town boss Malleck has just
received information that the Civil War is about to end. If that happens,
it would foil an important million dollar gun deal, financially destroying
his empire. To protect himself, he must put a stop to the "General
Lee and General Grant peace conference" conducted at a nearby farm
house. So Malleck hires notorious badman Jackson Blood to assassinate
one or both leaders. En route, Jackson and his gang divert to the town
saloon, taking time to rape and kill a beautiful woman named Mercedes,
the sister of frontier gunman Clayton (Craig Hill in his all-time best
role). Clayton is enraged by the atrocity and vows revenge against the
outlaws, without knowing anything about their political agenda.
Steely-eyed
Craig Hill was an American actor who began his career (like Clint Eastwood,
Ty Hardin, Edd Byrnes, et al) in a US television series, Whirly
Birds [1954-1959] before migrating to Europe in the mid-60s. Besides
making 15 Spaghetti Westerns, he went on to star in many other European
productions. In 1990, Craig married starlet Teresa Gimpra (the cult
actress who made 100+ films including MACABRE,
NIGHT
OF THE DEVILS, LOVE
BIDES OF THE BLOOD MUMMY). Barcelona Spain became their home.
After a 25 year marriage, Mr Hill died in April 2014 at 88.
