Koo
Stark in the Notorious Coming-Of-Age Film
that kept Her from becoming the Duchess of York
Also
Known As:
THE AWAKENING OF EMILY
director: Henry Herbert
starring: Koo Stark · Sarah Brackett · Victor Spinetti
· Jane Hayden · Constantine Gregory · Ina Skriver
The
year is 1924. Emily, the teen daughter of a once wealthy family, comes
to visit her mother for a few days at their estate in the English countryside
during her school break. Emily has one goal in mind. She wants to lose
her virginity. And there's more than enough opportunity for that. At
first, Emily is surprised by the excessive amount of sexuality around
her despite the sharp distinctions within the British class society.
But she soon learns how to make the most of the rampant sexual desires.
This
film (and CRUEL
PASSION a few months later) received much notoriety in the British
gossip press because Koo Stark was engaged to Prince Andrew at the time.
He was publicly indignant, condemning both films and asking for them
to be banned. Instead, the relationship came to an end and Koo Stark
missed the opportunity to become the Duchess of York.
Aside
from this motion picture, the filmography of Henry Herbert consists
mostly of TV projects (25+ between 1977-89). He retired into nobility
in the late '80s when he became the 17th Earl of Pembroke. Mr Herbert
died from a heart attack in October 2003 at age 64.
