Arguably,
the three best directors in the world combine their talents for this
erotic omnibus,
three short films with the central theme... eros.
1.
THE HAND (Wong Kar-Wai) in Chinese with Eng subtitles
Set in the sixties, a tailor is secretly infatuated with a famous courtesan.
He lovingly crafts the
dresses that she wears for other men. Over time, the dream woman falls
on hard times while the
tailor prospers. Then the unexpected happens...
2. EQUILIBRIUM (Steven
Soderbergh) in English language
An advertising man suffers from a recurring erotic dream. He seeks help
from a famous
psychiatrist/hypnotist who helps him recall the dream but the man can't
remember
the woman's identity when he wakes.
3. DANGEROUS THREAD
OF THINGS (Michelangelo Antonioni) English
Marriage has become stale for a middle-aged couple. The husband has
a
one-night stand with a free-spirited young woman. A bit later, the wife
and girl meet...
Wong
Kar Wai is probably best known for his controversial films 2046
and HAPPY TOGETHER, however he has also flirted successfully
with martial arts throughout his career. His ASHES
OF TIME is long considered one of the truly great Hong Kong
films and his recent GRANDMASTER
is a breathtaking look at the IP Man legend.
American
filmmaker Steven Soderberg got his first break in 1985 when the rock
band Yes hired him to shoot their (now Grammy winning) concert film
"Yes 9012 Live." He followed that project with his first movie
"Sex Lies and Videotape" in 1989. Over the years he has made
40 films including the Oscar winning "Traffic," "Erin
Brockovich," "Ocean's Eleven" and all the sequels. Today,
he is working on the new season of his hit TV series "The Knick."
As
it would turn out, this was the final film for Michelangelo Antonioni.
He died from a stroke in July 2007 at age 94. He started his journey
through cinema in 1947 with numerous short documentaries. His first
movie was in 1950, "The Story of a Love Affair." He is probably
best known to the cult movie fans for his hippie culture film "Zabrinski
Point" (1970) and the groundbreaking "Blow Up (1966). It was
the first mainstream film to show pubic hair on the screen.
