Director Nakagawa mixes traditional Japanese folklore with Western horrors in this classic vampire film from 1959. A vampire kidnaps Niwako whom he believes is the descendent of his soulmate. He has infected her with a non-aging process and is keeping her in a cell. She refuses his sexual advances, even when he transforms her into a wax doll. Eventually, her daughter and boyfriend rescue mom from the bloodsucker's underground lair.

Shigeru Amachi also starred in NEW GHOST STORY OF YOTSUYA the same year. Critics praised him for both features, calling him the new horror actor "bringing nihilism and tradition to the genre."
