Director Nakagawa
mixes traditional Japanese folklore with Western horrors in this classic
vampire film from 1959. A vampire kidnaps Niwako whom he believes is the
descendent of his soulmate. He has infected her with a non-aging process
and is keeping her in a cell. She refuses his sexual advances, even when
he transforms her into a wax doll. Eventually, her daughter and boyfriend
rescue mom from the bloodsucker's underground lair.
