Phantom Killer (1981) Kung-Fu Giallo hybrid from Stanley Fung
Phantom Killer (1981) Kung-Fu Giallo hybrid from Stanley Fung

"The only periodic Kung-Fu/Giallo cross-breed
that the World has ever seen"
-Luisito Joaquin Gonzalez

original Hong Kong/Chinese title FEN KU LOU

director: Stanley Fung Shui-Fan
starring: Pai Wei Nora Tsang Wah Cheung Susan Yam-Yam Shaw Billy Chan Qiqi Chan (JoJo Chan)

After helping a small village defeat a gang of bandits, Master Siu becomes extremely popular with the ladies, constantly being propositioned everywhere he goes. But he remains faithful to his girlfriend (played by Nora Tsang). Things take a turn for the worse when a masked killer turns up and begins to slaughter women who are rejected by Master Siu.

With more twists and turns than the traditional Giallo, this is an unusual hybrid mixing kung-fu and thriller elements. It is the brainchild of actor-turned-director Stanley Fung who also helmed a couple Jackie Chang/Sammo Hung movies (e.g., Return of the Lucky Stars in 1989). This was one of the last films for martial arts star Pai Wei (FLYING GUILLOTINE, FIVE DEADLY VENOMS, et al).

A Hong Kong/Chinese film with optional English subtitles, 89 min,
widescreen, encoded for ALL REGION, playable on any American DVD machine.
Extras include selected theatrical trailers.
