original Italian title UNA LUNGA FILA DI CROCI
[A Long Row of Crosses] also known as NOOSE FOR DJANGO and A HANGING FOR DJANGO
directed by Sergio Garrone (as Willy S Regan)
starring: Anthony Steffen · William Berger · Nicoletta Machiavelli
· Mario Brega · Maria Angela Giordano
Here
is an enjoyable film about the delicate partnership between two bounty
hunters, the stoic Brandon [called Django in some versions] and bible-thumping
preacher Everett Murdoch, as they are attracted to the Fargo Ranch because
Mr Fargo is known to hire 'wanted ' bandits. But the two uncover
(and try to stop) a slave-trafficking ring run by Fargo himself.
Sergio
Garrone made this movie immediately after NO
GRAVES ON BOOT HILL and just before DJANGO
THE BASTARD. His relationship with chief cinematographer Sandro
Mancori is legendary and has resulted in MANY popular
genre films. But unfortunately Mancori was not available for this shoot.
He was already involved in an over-deadline Gianfranco Parolini project
SABATA.
As a result, [the normally competent] Franco Villa was brought in for
primary photography. But Garrone was very unhappy with Villa's work. He
hired Aristide Massaccesi [the future Joe D'Amato] to act as "chief
camera operator" with orders to secretly reshoot many scenes.
