Johan, a young
man working as a hospital assistant, has recently married Aishah.
The newlyweds lead a very peaceful life, but it does not last long.
They are soon harassed by haunting, supernatural attacks. Despite
various attempts to stop the disturbances, they continue... especially
the presence of a mysterious old woman coupled with the sudden, jarring
appearance of the ghost of Johan's jealous former girlfriend, Anna.
In the fright
department, this one goes further than most Malaysian films. Usually
they get bogged down in cultural religious ideology [e.g.,
the big horror hit MUNAFIK
with no scenes of physical contact between different genders because
such action is forbidden in their Islamic culture]. Some of the younger
directors are willing to break the taboos, most notably Ryon Lee (HAUNTED
HOTEL), Jeffery Chiang (BUYER
BEWARE) and - of course - Syamsui Yusof, the filmmaker here.
