a wild night on the town, a British airline pilot is attacked by thugs
in Hong Kong. When he wakes in the hospital, he finds himself under
the care of a beautiful doctor, Emy Wong. Of course, he falls in love
with her, but Emy gravely tells him that - as per ancient East Asian
custom - she is betrothed to a man she has never met. Through a series
of [remarkable] events, poor Dr Emy falls into a life of prostitution.
While
many genre fans think Laura Gemser's Black Emanuelle character,
Emanuelle Jordan, was created by Joe D'Amato, it wasn't. Rather, the
first movie to depict the robust world of that photo/journalist was
BLACK
EMANUELLE from director Bitto Albertini in 1975. He attempted
to create the same sexual enigma for his next movie with Chai Lee as
Yellow Emanuelle. But Chai didn't really feel comfortable in
the role and declined the offer for a sequel. She had originally come
from mainland China to Great Britain in 1971 and started working for
the television arm of Pinewood Studios. Although her English wasn't
very good, it also wasn't all that necessary for her many cheesecake
appearances on the Benny Hill Show (1972-74).
Eventually, she landed the role of Doctor Anna Wong for the British/Italian
TV series Space 1999 (1975-1976).
During production in Italy, Miss Lee met Bitto Albertini who offered
her the Doctor Emanuelle Wong part for Yellow Emanuelle
[most of which was actually shot in Rome]. After this movie, she returned
to the UK to specialize in more mainstream projects like The Great
Muppet Caper and a slew of TV appearances. Interestingly, her
last movie appearance came in 1998 when she was hired as a stuntwoman
for Edward Norton's American History X.
