officer Don Jose meets and begins a relationship with a mysterious gypsy,
Carmen. After he discovers she has cheated on him with his Lieutenant,
he kills the officer and flees the city with Carmen. Don Jose recovers
from his wounds and is forced to begin the life of a bandit. Meanwhile,
Carmen betrays him for a fling with her ex-husband and then a lurid
affair with a bullfighter. Don Jose can no longer contain his anger.
Director
Luigi Bassoni always makes a great-looking film, usually the result
of working with some of the industry's best personnel. Here, the exquisite
camerawork is handled by his cinematographer brother Camillo (they would
work together in another Spaghetti Western a year later, A
LONG RIDE FROM HELL with Steve Reeves). Unfortunately, despite
his excellence, Mr Bazzoni wasn't very prolific in motion picture work.
He spent much of his career producing short films and documentaries.
In 1971, he worked again with Franco Nero for the Giallo THE
FIFTH CORD and 1975, Mr Bazzoni delivered his masterpiece, the
bizarre SciFi mystery FOOTPRINTS.
He died from a stroke at age 82, March 2012.
