Italian title UN POKER DI PISTOLE
director: Giuseppe
Vari (as Joseph Warren)
starring George Hilton · George Eastman · Annabella Incontrera
· Dick Palmer · Jose Torres
Lucas
loses a lot of money (money he really doesn't have to lose) in a poker
game with Ponson. The winner agrees to let him "work off" the
debt by "investigating" the clandestine activities of
a powerful rancher named Masters. But Lucas is soon involved in a double-cross
with an outlaw gang and trouble with a deceptive saloon girl.
Popular
action director Giuseppe Vari, former film-editor to Federico Fellini,
often used the 'Joseph Warren' alias (especially for his later Spaghetti
Westerns [A
HOLE IN THE FOREHEAD] and the Laura Gemser film SISTER EMANUELLE).
He is probably best know to his cult fans for the weird peplum hybrid
WAR
OF THE ZOMBIES. After 25 years in the business, Mr Vari died from
a stroke at age 77, October 1993.
This
particular western was written by genre master Fernando Di Leo (SLAUGHTER
HOTEL, SNAKE
VALLEY, MILANO
CALIBER 9, et al). Mr Di Leo retired in 1985; he died from a heart
attack in December 2003 at age 71.
