Just released from prison, ex-con Ugo Piazza meets his former employers, a psycho gangster named Rocco who enjoys sick violence and torture. Rocco is not happy with Ugo.
He and the police believe Ugo has hidden $300,000 that should have gone to an drug syndicate. They plan to force Ugo into giving up the loot.
Fernando Di Leo is generally considered the best of the European Crime directors. He elevated the Italian gangster film to an art form. And this motion picture is often cited as his very best. But besides mastering that genre, he is known for the quintessential horror sleaze BEAST KILLS IN COLD BLOOD, a disturbing Lolita story SEDUCTION and his home-invasion thriller MADNESS (Vacanze per un Massacro). Mr Di Leo retired in 1985; he died from a stroke in December 2003 at age 71.
Despite the fluid action and gripping tension, this film is probably best known for Barbara Bouchet's star-making performance. After Alberto De Martino's MAN WITH THE ICY EYES in 1971, she soon became one of Europe's top stars with a long list of hit films including AMUCK! and DON'T TORTURE A DUCKLING. She is still active today.
