Police detective
Frank Berin is removed from an investigation against top gangster
Mac Brown, the owner of a pharmaceutical company, suspected of drug
trafficking and masterminding a teen sex ring. But when the crime
boss is murdered on a crowded Manhattan streetcorner - with no suspects
or witnesses - Frank is brought back into the case.
This is an unusual
DVD package for an equally strange film. Here are two versions of
essentially the same movie, but they tend to be radically different.
First, is the original 1970 Italian film [English
subtitles] concentrating more on the hippie movement, drugs and prostitution.
This version runs 85 minutes.
The second movie - released Internationally in English, four years
later - is considerably longer (104 min) and the plot is much more
focused on the gangster story. The print here is in English with Greek
subtitles. Both versions have the same 'twist' ending.
It's the only
movie directed by Pietro Zuffi. He enjoyed a career as the production
designer for many Italian masters, including Michelangelo Antonioni
and Federico Fellini. He died in 2006 at age 86.
Michael Reardon was a relatively unknown American actor, remembered
only for a co-starring role with Burt Reynolds in the TV series Hawk
(1966-67). This movie remains his only
feature film.
San Francisco
born Barbara Bouchet moved to Italy in 1971 where she landed the starring
role in Alberto De Martino's MAN
WITH THE COLD EYES. She soon became one of Europe's top stars
and is known for many cult films including BLACK
BELLY OF THE TARANTULA, CONVENT
OF CASTRO, CAULDRON
OF DEATH and THE
HOOK. Usually, she is an immediately recognizable blonde,
but here Barbara is a brunette [see pic upper left]. In 1985, She
started her own production company and launched her own line of fitness
books and videos. She also opened her own health club in Rome. Today,
Barbara still takes the occasional acting role and stars in the Italian
TV series Ho Sposato Uno Sbirro (Married To A Cop).
An
Italian film; two versions: original Italian print with English subtitles
(85 minutes), widescreen
and International version in English language with Greek subtitles (104
minutes), fullscreen.
