A
Classic Korean Film Allows "A Rare Peek into that Culture's Taboo"
from one of Asian Most Celebrated Directors, the late Shing Sang-ok
director:
Shin Sang-ok
starring: Choi Eun-hie · Jeon Yeong-seon · Kim Jin-kyu ·
Han Eun-jin · Do Geum-bong
This film - along
with ONE
THOUSAND YEAR OLD FOX - represent the most lauded ventures in
Korea's film heritage.
Youngster Oak-hee is the narrator of the film. Through her eyes the audience
meets her mom, aunt and maid, three widows living together in the same
house. The women are painfully aware of their societal positions and accept
their 'duty' to curtail all normal human emotions. Specifically they give
the impression - at the very least - of remaining totally chaste after
the death of their husbands. The household becomes engulfed in sexual
tension when a new boarder, Mr Han, enters the picture.
A classic
Korean film; widescreen, uncut (103 min.) version, in Korean language
with removable English or Korean subtitles, in DVD encoded for ALL REGIONS,
playable on any American machine.
