Even BAD Teruo
Ishii is better than NO Teruo Ishii. Unfortunately, this movie -- Ishii's
final statement before his death in 2004 -- is a mess from start to finish...
but what a delightful mess it is! The famed director of JOYS
OF TORTURE and HELL
( among many others) delivers his ode to Japanese author Edogawa Rampo
in a remarkably disjointed story punctuated by a bevy of naked Japanese
girls and lots of blood! Somewhere in the middle of everything is a tale
of a blind artist and his fascination with a demented dwarf.
