Alsp known as JAPANESE HELL. Legendary
filmmaker Teruo Ishii (responsible for everything from the JOYS OF TORTURE
series to SUPERGIANT, from BLIND WOMAN'S CURSE to the ABASHIRI PRISON
yakuza movies) remakes Nobuo Nakagawa's classic Horror/Fantasy JIGOKU
(Hell). Upon its release in Japan, critics both praised and condemned
this film, calling it "a masterpiece" and "excessive junk." It is a shocking
work that probably deserves both extreme labels.
"Jigoku" is
Hell, the place where evil people are punished after they pass from mortal
life. As the story opens, the head mistress of Hell is concerned by its
recent population boom and she decides to warn the living of their destiny
should they continue the decadent behavior. She choose three sinners (a
cult leader, a pedophile serial killer and a curry poisoner) and gives
them a graphic demonstration of the horrible punishment that awaits.
