TUYUL
(Toyol in English) delivers a re-imagine story about a well-known
Indonesian mythical spirit. But, here, Tuyul isn't a mischievous imp but
- rather - a horrific creature with deadly intentions towards Daniel and
Mia, a husband and wife who move back to Mia's childhood home after her
mother's death. While cleaning up the attic, Daniel finds a bottle hidden
underneath the broken wooden floor. Without thinking, he opens it and
releases the evil into the house. The Tuyul makes a deadly pact with Daniel,
promising him riches in exchange for the child his pregnant wife is carrying.
Director
Billy Christian attended the Binus University School of the Arts in Jakarta.
Upon graduation, he worked as an illustrator with numerous companies,
including Games Workshop and Cryptozoic. In 2016, Billy founded Polar
Engine, an art agency for the entertainment industry. TUYUL is his first
major film release. Actor Gandhi Fernando, who also wrote this script,
originally found popularity through an Indonesian TV series called Daily
Shenanigans (20i1-12). To date, he is best known for the starring
role in the hit horror film MIDNIGHT
SHOW.
