When
art student Kang-Sheng returns to his remote hometown village in search
of ancient murals, he and his classmates are witness to a fatal car accident.
His girlfriend Wang-Zhi unintentionally interrupts a witchcraft ritual
for the deceased. Horrified, the group quickly leaves scene to settle
in their rooms at the inn owned by Kang-Sheng's mother. The following
day, while searching for ancient artwork, the students discover a mysterious
warning instead a cave. This leads to menacing encounters with ghosts
and a supernatural sexual assault that borders on rape.
This
is a surpassingly effective horror movie from first time director Hui
Liu. But the film's notoriety stems from the tragedy of actress Wag Jie-Xi.
After the release, she became seriously ill with a freak strain of leukemia.
Ms Wang Jie-Xi would die on August 9, 2015 at age 25.
