Koji
Wakamatsu's film inspired
by the 1966 Chicago Nurse Massacre
original Japanese title: OKASARETA HAKUI
director: Koji Wakamatsu
starring: Juro Kara · Junko Natsu (as Michiko Sakamoto) · Keiko Koyanagi
· Miki Hayashi
Inspired
by the International news report [July 1966] of Richard Speck raping
and slaughtering a houseful of nurses in Chicago, Koji Wakamatsu mixes
footage of student demonstrations, campus unrest, the Vietnam War and
naked models with the story of a troubled man invited into a nurse dormitory
for some sexual games. He watches two lesbians make love. Then he promptly
pulls out a gun and shoots them both. For the rest of the film, the
other nurses cry and plead and beg him to spare their lives. But he
doesn't. Rather, this maniac tortures, rapes and kills them all.
At
the end, the movies switches from black-and-white to lurid color for
the blood-splattering scenes. Then, back to B&W for shots of cops
arriving on the scene, punctuated with photos of police brutality while
the credit roll. This is a significant film [released worldwide] which
defined a new level of tolerance within theatrical cinema.
