Original Chinese Title: PINGGUO [the name of the lead character played by Fan Bing-Bing]

director: Li Yu
starring: Tony Leung Ka-Fai · Fan Bing-Bing · Tong Da Wei · Elaine Jin

Despite winning numerous International Awards, this film was (is) banned in China. As punishment, the producers and director were not permitted to make movies in China for two years. Many critics thought the harsh decision was made because director Li Yu is a female in a male dominated field.

Kun is a city worker who accidentally sees his wife Pingguo raped by her boss Lin, the sleazy owner of a massage parlor. Thinking this is a good opportunity for extortion, Kun goes to the bossman for hush money. Lin refuses to pay. So Kun goes to Lin's wife and tells everything. Mei is upset but not surprised by her husband's assault. As a form of compensation, she offers to have sex with Kun and they start an affair. These two couples are brought closer together when Pingguo becomes pregnant and there is uncertainty over who the father might be.

A Chinese production with English subtitles; widescreen format (16:9),
uncut version (114 min.), DVD encoded for ALL REGION NTSC,
