The
ghost of a gambling master returns to earth to help his granddaughter
win the annual competition organized by a Royal Card Player, the current
boss who actually masterminded the murder of her parents and grandfather.
The
film is a star-studded cameo showcase for many Shaw Bros performers
including Ku Feng and Ben Ko, but most significantly for legendary Alexander
Rei Lo [the villain here] who also worked as the action director. The
two male leads are Mark Cheng (who became Yukari Oshima's husband just
prior the to shoot) and Wu Ma, the prolific veteran actor who died in
2013 after making DEATH
IS HERE, his 272nd motion picture. But probably the most significant
aspect of this extremely rare film is the headlining role of Yukari
Oshima. Here is another attempt to distance her from the 'fighting diva'
base. Despite the successful DREAMING
THE REALITY and GODFATHER'S
DAUGHTER MAFIA BLUESearlier the same year, this film continued
a "broader path," preceded by the fantasy DEVIL
CAT and the cockeyed ghost story SPIRITUALLY
A COP. She broke this trend with her next project, KICK
BOXER TEARS.
