Barry
Evans plays Joe North, a cheeky London cabbie who uses his job as a
means of chatting his way into the knickers of his tastier clientele,
including stripper Nikki (played by Judy Geeson). While lots of fun,
the film is little more than a series of smutty skits which allow taxi
driver Joe to experience a variety of sexcapades with an exceptionally
attractive group of randy passengers. Who complaining? You weren't expecting
an art house flicker, were you?
Actor
Barry Evans originally found success playing Dr Michael Upton in the
British TV series Doctor At Large (1966-69). It
is presumed he accepted the role in this sex comedy to shake the wholesome
'Doctor' image that had curbed his career in the early '70s.
During this period he also gave an equally jarring performance for Pete
Walker's DIE
SCREAMING MARYANN. Interestingly, Barry returned to British
television in 1979 for a decade of Mind Your Language before
getting fired during a drunken brawl on the set. In a perverse twist
of fate, the next seven years found Barry Evans employed as a London
taxi driver, until he was found dead from alcohol poisoning in February
1997 at age 53.
