(829) LA FEMME PUBLIQUE (1984) Valerie Kaprisky in Zulawski film

The Acclaimed Andrzej Zulawski film with Valerie Kaprisky

original French title: LA FEMME PUBLIQUE [The Public Woman]

director: Andrzej Zulawski
starring Valérie Kaprisky ˇ Francis Huster ˇ Lambert Wilson ˇ Patrick Bauchau ˇ Giselle Pascal

Young nude model Ethel is invited to play a role in a film based on Dostoyevsky's The Possessed. The film director, a Czech immigrant in Paris, takes control over her life, and in a short time Ethel is unable to differentiate between acting and reality. She winds up playing a real-life role, posing as the dead wife of another Czech immigrant, who is manipulated by the filmmaker into committing a political assassination.

APHRODITE was the breakout role for Valérie Kaprisky in 1982. Two years later, she found International fame with this controversial motion picture followed by the shocking YEAR OF THE JELLYFISH. But her popularity disappeared quickly when her American-made version of the French classic, Breathless (with Richard Gere), was released a year later in Europe to devastating reviews and audience outrage. Deciding that she didn't feel comfortable with the Hollywood scene (nor their movies), she returned to France for an ongoing parade of television projects and a publicized, heated romance with Alain Delon. Today, she is playing the lead role of Laura Belmont in the TV series Section de Recherches [Research Section] (2015-).
