director: Hugo Fregonese
starring Robert Taylor · Ty Hardin · Ron Randell ·
Rosenda Monteros · Marc Lawrence · Fela Roque
Here's
a Robert Taylor oddity, reminiscent of his Westward The Women
(a 1951 American-made Western dealing with mail order brides traveling
to California). But clearly, it is based on the 1943 film Pampas
Barbara which was director Fregonese's first production. This would
be one of the last motion picture projects for Hollywood veteran Robert
Taylor [starring 75+ films including in three Oscar Best Picture nominees,
Broadway Melody of 1936 (1935), Quo Vadis (1951) and Ivanhoe
(1952)]. After this movie, he hosted the television series Death
Valley Days from 1966 until his death (lung cancer) in 1969.
Here,
Robert Taylor plays Captain Martin with Ty Hardin as the anarchist Miguel
Carreras. They are in charge of delivering a load of prostitutes to
a distant outpost in the rurals of Argentina. Director Hugo Fregonese
was a European filmmaker working in Italy. France. England and Germany.
In 1968, Hugo returned to his native Argentina where he continued to
make movies (mostly never seen outside South America) until his death
in 1987.
