Scientist
Expedito Vitus discovers an elixir of life when he explores the tomb
of Runamb in the sands of Egypt. He returns to Brazil with a mummy that
he plans to revive with his new serum. He is unaware that the Runamb
mummy had been a dangerous psychopath obsessed with an exotic dancer
named Nadja. In ancient Egypt, he had became homicidal when she rejected
him. And now, Prof Vitus is unleashing this monster to the modern world.
With the help of a demented assistant named Igor, the mummy does come
back to life and he does begin a murderous rampage as he stalks couples,
killing the men and tossing beautiful women in an underground dungeon
where they go mad. The situation is investigated by a reporter who happens
to have an assistant that resembles the long-lost Nadja causing the
mummy to go even more berserk.
This amazing masterpiece is the debut film from Ivan
Cardoso and it is often regarded as the finest genre production from
Brazil. He followed this project with another quirky exploitation entry
THE
SEVEN VAMPIRES. In 2005, Mr Cardoso recruited horror legend
Paul Naschy for the lavish WEREWOLF
IN THE AMAZON which - sadly - would be Naschy's last film.
