Vampires
and Carnivorous Plants in Ivan Cardoso's Hit Film
director: Ivan Cardoso
starring Nicole Puzzi · Simone Carvalho · Lucelia Santos
· Nuno Leal Maia · Andreas Beltrao
Reportedly,
Ivan Cardoso was working on a 'giant carnivorous plant' film
(not unlike Little Shop of Horrors) when he was tapped
to make a film that could capitalize on a current Brazilian Pop Hit
'As Sete Vampiras' [Seven Vampires] sung by icon Leo Jaime. He was
reeling from the success of his first movie SECRET
OF THE MUMMY and was in a position of calling the shots. Essentially,
Ivan was given total freedom to make whatever film he wanted. And he
had something that was absent from his previous project ...a budget.
His only requirement was to include the song and a cameo by singer Jaime.
Director Cardoso took the existing carnivorous plant footage and worked
it into a new story about a woman who purchases a dinner/nightclub.
She strongly believes the secret to success is a flamboyant stage show,
so she develops a musical set piece which features seven nude vampires
and a pop singer named Bob Rider. Plus the club is also plagued with
gruesome murders (by an unknown assailant) and the aforementioned plant
seems capable of turning victims into bloodsucking creatures.
