In
an alternate Japan, territorial street gangs form opposing factions
are collectively known as the Tokyo Tribes. Merra, leader of the Wu-Ronz
Clan, crosses the turf line in his bid to conquer all of Tokyo. This
begins the major War.
The
movie is emotional. Kaleidoscopic. Explosive. Sexy. It's everything
anybody could want in a futuristic encounter. And the final segment
is one of the best ever put on film. It is probably Sion Sono's best
motion picture, the perfect sequel to WHY
DON'T YOU GO PLAY IN HELL?. Here is an absurd mix between WARRIORS,
traditional yakuza flicks, and an entire history of hip hop videos.
The beats are tight, the visuals mind-blowing, the whole thing unspools
like an insane hallucination. As good as Sono's recent films GUILTY
OF ROMANCE and TAG
may have been, nothing can prepare the audience for the sheer wonder
of this masterpiece.
As
a side note, this film also features Miyuki Yokoyama, the controversial
star of the 'Franchise of Cruelty' films HITCH-HIKE,LIPSTICK,
et al.
