A naive young girl is forcefully kidnapped while babysitting the son of a wealthy business mogul. She and the boy are held hostage by an ex-stuntman and a vengeful movie star.

René Clément was one of the leading French directors of the post-World War II era. Some critics regard him as one of the greatest European filmmakers (if not THE greatest) based on such motion pictures as Forbidden Games (1952), Purple Noon (1960) and Is Paris Burning (1966). He became obsessed with Thrillers in the mid '60s and began to specialize in that genre. Critics (and seemingly audiences) hated that decision. Despite the impressive cast and quirky narrative, this film failed to spark at the boxoffice and Mr Clément became very unhappy. In fact, he never made another film. Instead, he retired to Monte Carlo where he died twenty years later from a heart attack at age 82 (March 1996).

Maria Scheider, best know for playing opposite Marlon Bando in Last Tango In Paris (three years before this film), died from cancer in February 2011 at age 58.
