016 LIBERTINE (1968) Catherine Spaak in Campanile's Erotic Hit
016 LIBERTINE (1968) Catherine Spaak in Campanile\'s Erotic Hit

Pasquale Festa Campanile's Erotic International Classic Hit with Catherine Spaak

Original Italian Title: LA MATRIARCA [The Matriarch]

director: Pasquale Festa Campanile
starring: Catherine Spaak
Jean-Louis Trintignant Gigi Proietti Luigi Pistilli Gabriele Tinti Paolo Stoppa

Catherine Spaak plays Mimi, a sexy widow who discovers her late husband had a secret apartment where he cheated on her and engaged in some unusual fetishes. Now she decides to use the same apartment to explore her own sexuality. She buys a copy of Freud's Psychpathis Sexualis and begins to experiment with an number of perversions.

Catherine Spaak is incredibly cute and naturally sexy (in a nostalgic '60s sort of way), surprisingly different from her performance a year later in the psychedelic RATHER COMPLICATED GIRL. Director Pasquale Festa Campanile scurried through genres for years - helming 50+ motion pictures - but he usually found comfort with exploitation fare (like his remarkable AUTOSTOP ROSSO SANGUE [Hitch Hike]). That decision probably cost him major recognition by the critics. His later film GIRL FROM TRIESTE is generally considered his best. Mr Campanilo died from a heart attack in February 1986 at age 58.

An Italian film, with English subtitles; widescreen format, fully uncut (90 minutes),
DVD encoded for ALL REGION NTSC WORLD FORMAT; extras include selected theatrical trailers.
