The marriage
of Mick and Kate is in serious trouble. Quite simply, sex is nonexistent.
Kate has imposed a 'love ban' because they already have six young children
and she wants no more. For ten months now, Mick is without sex and has
begun sleeping in the spare room. Why not simply move to the Pill or condoms?
Well, this is a devoutly Catholic family and the church teaches contraception
is a sin. Enter a condom salesman (played by John Cleese), a promiscuous
au pair and the parish priest... the fireworks explode.
In the late
Sixties, sex films began to flourish in the International marketplace.
Each country had it own approach to the genre. None were more cautious
than the British. While the English studios did not shy away from nudity
and sex themes, they would always cloak erotica within the structure of
comedy. Producer Betty Box and director Ralph Thomas (with theirDoctor and Carry On franchises) were
pioneers in the the British sex arena. A lion's share of their films starred
"safe-looking" Hywell Bennett. This particular venture featured
a cameo role for John Cleese, a young comedian who was enjoying fame for
the television series Monty Python's Flying Circus (1969-1974).
