If
there's a skeleton in Jackie Chan's closet, this is it. Studio boss
Raymond chow thought it would be a good idea for the popular chop socky
star to get some mainstream attention, so Chan was added to the cast
of this turn-of-the-century sex farce. The film is a series of vignettes
dealing with a family who has gathered to be with the dying patriarch
during his last days. There's lots of coy talk, heated bickering and
a nude prostitute who falls off a rickshaw, but it doesn't get sexy
until Jackie Chan arrives (which is about halfway into the 2 hour film).
At that point, playing a bumbling rogue, he seduces the pretty daughter
and then her mother.
Jackie and his lovers are the only ones who take their clothes off (not
counting the aforementioned prostitute). They are the only ones who
do the nasty in this otherwise silly sex pic. It remains Jackie's only
nude scene (two of them actually in this film). It's also his only film
without one fight scene, And there are no stunts, unless you count his
gyrations in the sack.
However,
regardless of Jackie Chan's confession in the Daily China Newspaper
(9/20/06), this film would not be considered porn by any reasonable
standard. Yes, it comes closer than anything else he'd done. But since
he's never flirted with nudity or a love scene, it's easy to see why
he's quick to disown the film.
