is the fully uncut original release of THE RAPE AFTER (1984).
It was also re-released - in an edited form - as DEVIL FETUS: THE RAPE
AFTER (1986).
After all is said
and done, this one remains one of Hong Kong's best horror films. It's
bursting with enough chills and imaginative scares to fill a dozen traditional
fright flicks. One of the best things about this film is the complete
lack of slapstick humor that too often mars the consistency of HK horror.
Rather, -from the opening moments (when Shu Ya visits her retarded, deformed
brother, a victim of syphilis passed on by an adulterous father), this
motion picture creates an atmosphere of dark tension, creeping evil and
a foreboding sense of gloom.
As the story unfolds,
the audience sees a rotting corpse in a maggot-infested closet; a woman
who chops her finger off with a meat cleaver; an abortion interrupted
by an angry, vicious ghost; a priest whose ears are ripped off by a gang
of zombies... plus magic spells, a killer fetus, severed heads, and birds
erupting into flying balls of fire.
