On
their way home, two girls take a short cut through the backwoods. But
their car breaks down. The girls ask a group of pot-smoking hippies for
help but they end up getting repeatedly raped and abused. After the hippies
have finished with them, the girls stumble into the woods. However, even
more bad luck awaits, as they are captured by a devil cult (think Manson
here). The leader declares that he wishes to "reduce them to sexual
beasts" before killing them. Meanwhile, a sheriff investigation
is under way [spurred into action by one of the girl's concerned father.
Inexplicability, yet another [unrelated] plot unfolds as two white slavers
- escorting a female drug addict to a Mexican brothel - take refuge in
an abandoned shack nearby.
Instantly
reminiscent of Wes Craven's LAST
HOUSE ON THE LEFT (also produced in 1972)
but without the poignancy. Rather, this is pure exploitation. It's filled
with an overload of gratuitous nudity, extreme perversity and sexual violence.
Shot a year before the acceptance of hardcore scenes in Grindhouse fare,
this one pushes the envelope as much as possible without any penetration.
Little is known about the pedigree of the film. Most of the participants
are bogus and few have ever been linked to any other production. The lone
exception is Candy Sweet who also appeared in Arch Hudson's 1965
film TORTURED
FEMALES. That relationship has caused some critics to speculate
Hudson's involvement (although he has not officially made a film since
1966). The other female lead, Laurel Canyon, is a suspected pseudonym
for Rene Bond. Some fans think a young Ms Bond - usually a brunette -
is playing the blonde girl here.
