Frost's Notorious S&M Shocker
Original Danish title: SLAVER I BURE (Slaves in Cages)
director: Lee Frost (as Carl Borch)
starring: Brigit Kroyer · Ray Sebastian · Orla Nsu · Leif Betheas ·
Annelisa Detts · Emil Kjarum
Lee
Frost would shift effortlessly between Horror (The Thing with Two
Heads) and Biker films (Chrome and Hot Leather), between
Blaxploitation (Black Gestapo) and Westerns (The Scavengers),
between Mainstream Drive-In (Dixie Dynamite) and Shockumentaries
(Mondo Bizarro), between between soft core erotica (POOR
CECILY) and Hardcore Porn (CLIMAX
OF BLUE POWER). He directed absolutely every type of film. And
then there's this...
In 1970
Lee Frost had just finished a documentary called Witchcraft
1970 with some S&M footage left in the can. He decided to turn
it into a new film, Captives. At the same time, he started
working on a Biker Sex Movie called Ride Hard Ride Wild with Sue
Peters and Ray Sebastian. Neither CAPTIVES nor RIDE
HARD blossomed. But RIDE HARD got released,
camouflaged as a Danish import (Sue Peters became Brigit Krøyer
and Ray Sebastian became Karl Hansen in the credits; Lee Frost
was Elov Peterssens). Captives - which also featured
Sue and Ray, errr, Brigit and Karl - got scrubbed but a couple years later
emerged in a new edit as SLAVES IN CAGES. Again,
Lee Frost tried to hide the inadequacies of the film behind a Foreign
Import promotion, calling it "a New Film from Denmark" directed
by Carl Borch. He purposely added shakiness to the credit sequence and
sync trouble to the dialogue, ultimately succeeding with the ruse.
The plot
deals with a rich creep named Max Kraugh who kidnaps blonde Nancy and
tosses her into a dungeon cage along with other women. These captured
females are destined for starring roles in a private sex show - held upstairs
in his theater - on Friday nights. Max prepares them by withholding food
and water for days and he also introduces them to various whip and
torture sessions. This is ugly cinema with some very beautiful women,
including the aforementioned Sue Peters as well as Sandy Dempsey and buxom
Annette Michael hiding behind the Danish pseudonyms.
Mr Frost
- born David Kayne, and owner of numerous other monikers including F C
Perl, Leoni Valentino, Robert Lee, and Les Emerson - died at age 71 in
May 2007, after helming 50+ movies.
