Bellocchio's Legendary Inquisition Tale - Uncut! with Beatrice Dalle
Original Italian title: LA VISIONE DEL SABBA
[The Witches' Sabbath]
director: Marco Bellocchio
starring: Beatrice Dalle · Daniel Ezralow · Corinne Touzet · Jacques
Weber · Omero Antonutti
A young
beautiful woman named Maddalena has been accused of attempted murder.
She is imprisoned in a mental hospital due to her claim of being a witch
from the 17th century. She says that she's been waiting centuries for
the man worthy of her virginity. Maddalena's case is given to a young
psychiatrist who soon becomes infatuated with her world of pagan pleasures.
He begins to ignore his own wife Cristina as he becomes engulfed in Maddalena's
sado-erotic landscape. The Inquisition and its horrors become an intricate
part of the witches' ritual.
Considered
a World Class Director and a member of the board at the Cannes Film Festival,
Marco Bellocchio tackles difficult ideas and manages to intellectually
simplify them. While this film can (and perhaps should) be viewed as a
horror movie (containing many of the usual trappings and plot devices),
the metaphor of witchery can also be appreciated as a description
of the sexual influence (and thus, power) that women exert on men. Mr
Bellocchio, born in 1939, is still active in cinema today. His output,
however, has understandably slowed to only one project every two-three
years.
An
Italian production with English subtitles; widescreen format (16:9), totally
uncut version (92 minutes), DVD encoded for ALL REGION NTSC WORLD FORMAT.
