Absolutely revolutionary filmmaking from director Toshio Matsumoto! This is a gay version of Oedipus Rex [Oedipus the King]. Peter - a homosexual exponent and renown transvestite - plays Eddie, the #1 hostess in a popular gay nightclub. He's got a great job and more friends than he can handle. He's also smitten for the older club owner and would like to snatch him away from his prissy boyfriend, the Madam. Eventually, Peter is victorious in his seduction even though it kills the Madame. Happiness turns to tragedy when Peter's new boyfriend sees an old photograph and realizes that Peter is actually his son from a disastrous marriage.

A description can't possibly do justice to this remarkable film. It fluctuates seamlessly from chic to kitsch, shock to camp, grim drama to surrealistic horror. This is truly a modern masterpiece from director Toshio Matsumoto, graduate of Tokyo University and pioneer of avant-garde experimental movies. He has published several photo and art books and is currently a professor (and dean) at Kyoto University of Art and Design.
