A
Mistress becomes a Wife's Slave after the Death of the Husband
original Korean
title: KKOTGWA SIJAK
director: Min Kyu-dong
starring: Eom Jeong-hwa · Kim Hyo-jin · Hwang Jeong-min
· John D Kim
Jung-ha
and her husband have a rather abusive relationship. Their lovemaking
involves heavy sessions of S&M, which includes hitting and whipping.
Seemingly, he didn't reserve his sado tendencies only for his wife.
Jung-ha's husband dies accidentally while cheating on her with Naru,
his secret mistress. After the funeral, Naru comes to Jung-ha, begging
to be her slave in return for being able to live in his house. At first,
Jung-ha denies her request and sends Naru away. But then Jung-ha realizes
that her husband's spirit has refused to stay in the home unless she
agrees to the arrangement. Soon, their strange relationship begins and
the two women start living together.
Director
Min's story is not easy to classify. Essentially it's romantic and erotic,
while exploring a wide arena of lovemaking which includes both S&M
and lesbian tendencies. And, then, it's also a ghost story. Perhaps,
the supernatural theme is easier to fathom after looking at Min's other
projects which include his ghost-and-lesbian horror film MEMENTO
MORI (part of the Whispering
Corridors series). In that light, this movie is the logical
progression in his artistic development. The two leading ladies are
young vets in the Korean film industry. Eom Jeung-hwa starred in the
hit PRINCESS
AURORA, while Kim Hyo-jin found success in EVERYBODY
HAS SECRETS.
A Korean
film with English subtitles; widescreen format (16:9), fully uncut version
(87 min.), DVD encoded for ALL REGION NTSC, playable on any American machine.
