The film opens in Madrid, where teenager Lulu is reeling from a crush she has on on Pablo, an older best friend of her brother. They go on a date to a concert and afterwards Lulu loses her virginity to Pablo. Their romance gets put on hold while he travels to the United States for a teaching job. Upon his return, they hook up again and Pablo proposes. Marriage soon follows. Later, they befriend a young transvestite hooker named Ely and Lulu enjoys the hint of perverse sexuality in the friendship. After a few months, Lulu and Pablo have a daughter; but Lulu is more and more attracted to the promise of dark sex. One day - after a party - Pablo blindfolds Lulu and proposes a threesome; Lulu is shocked when she discovers the third person in the menage-a-trois was her brother. She leaves Pablo due to the incestuous gag. Living alone now, Lulu meets a dangerous man named Remy and starts to drift into kinky S&M sex. Lulu agrees to appear in a sado gay underground movie. Things spin out-of-control once the filming starts.

Bigas Luna found much success after the release of this film. The obvious controversy pushed him into the forefront worldwide. He backed away from filmmaking in 2006 after purchasing and running the oldest musical cafe in Europe called El Plata (in Zaragoza). Between 2008-2012, he directed a show at his establishment called "Cabaret Iberico." Mr Luna died from Leukemia at age 67 in April 2013.
