This
is an early film for maverick director Jean Beaudin and one of the few
Canadian horror movies to find an International audience in the pre-David
Cronenburg years. After this production, Mr Beaudin was hired by the National
Film Board of Canada to helm a film of the Olympic Games XXI in Montreal.
That success led to decades of Canadian television work. He retired in
1999 and currently lives in Montreal.
The story
begins as a
local pawn shop owner jumps from a highrise window to his death. Journalist
Paul Dwyer investigates and finds evidence that might indicate murder
rather than suicide. He also discovers a symbol has been drawn on the
sidewalk with the dead man's blood. As Paul starts formulating some theories,
he evades getting poisoned twice and one of his key witnesses, Virginia,
is kidnapped. Paul begins to think that a Satanist suicide cult may be
behind everything.
