GOLDEN QUEEN COMMANDOS (1984)
director: Chu
Yin Pin
starring: Venus Lin (Brigitte Lin) · Elsa Yeung · Sally
Yeh · Cheng Hsiu-Ying · Sylvia Peng
The film begins by
introducing seven female fighters, now spending time behind bars in a
maximum security prison circa (possibly) turn of the 20th century. Each
woman has a specialty, ranging from explosives to burglary. And each has
also learned how to kick serious butt. In jail, the women fall under the
hypnotic leadership of Black Fox who plans their escape and convinces
them to join her in a top-level undercover mission against an oppressive
military general and his dangerous chemical plant.
The story is infused with director Chu Yin Pin's own brand of cockeyed
innovation as he turns this story into a Spaghetti Western, complete with
Ennio Morricone music. These deadly ladies on horseback save a village
from bandits, encounter ghosts in an ancient burial ground, and then take
on the entire cavalry of black-capped soldiers.

Director Chu Yin Pin
made this sequel later that year, with the same cast but with a totally
different storyline. In this one, Black Cat betrays her gang - for a man,
no less -and then regains their respect by chopping off her arm, replacing
it with a Gatling gun. The action is swift and very reminiscent of the
violent Spaghetti Westerns. This strange hybrid even has a mysterious
dressed-in-black bounty hunter who helps the girls in their final assault
against an overwhelming army.
