This
ultra rare Japanese-French co-production was directed by Shuji Terayama,
the notorious underground poet/playwright from the '50s who became filmmaker
Masahiro Shinoda's chief scripter throughout the '60s. It's odd
for someone with such rigid credentials to make a free-form, non-linear
film like this one. Based on Pauline Reage's novel Return to Roissy, the
sequel to THE
STORY OF O.
The locale
is Hong Kong circa 1930. Klaus Kinski plays Sir Stephen is the wealthy
owner of a Shanghai casino while Isabelle Illiers is O, his French slave
who chooses to become a prostitute at House of Flowers brothel so she
can prove unconditional love to her master.
This
film was originally released in a 72 minute version with much of the graphic
sex and sadism edited out. Here is the full length European print, running
an additional 11 minutes. This film was preceded by STORY
OF O (1974) and STORY
OF O 2 (1979).

DVD package: Japanese/French co-production, one disc in French with Italian
subtitles (80 minutes) and the second disc in French with English subtitles
(83 minutes); both DVDs are widescreen format, encoded for ALL REGION
NTSC WORLD FORMAT, playable on any American machine. Extras include theatrical
trailers.
